A Sunday Hike in Einsiedeln

I love all season – really. I love winter and the Christmas season – when all is covered in white (at least in the mountains here in Switzerland) and there is nothing better than putting on the fireplace and drinking a glass of red wine whilst sitting on the fur. Then comes spring, when finally everything awakens again and the birds start coming back to slowly build their nests. The greatest flower fields are usually found in spring and near summer. Summer is just fabulous because of the weather – there is nothing better than being able to wear a t-shirt and shorts and not freezing our asses off. Yet autumn,.. it something special to me. Perhaps because so many of my beloved people are born in autumn, or maybe because we are getting ready for the festive season. Surely, I love the magic of nature – when all leaves turn turn their colors and everything becomes yellow, orange and red. When the sun turns gold in the evening and every look at nature takes my breath away – that is when I enjoy being outside the most.

One of my closer friends and I decided to use this time of the year and start exploring Switzerland just a little more. I can’t believe I have been living in Zurich for nearly 4 years (in spring) and I still don’t really know the country. There is so much beauty – and we decided we want to explore as much as possible of it. Because Zaphira (my puppy) is only 4.5 months old now, we decided not to do a huge trip (she does not have the energy, yet). We wanted something nearby but still go outside the city – outside of Zurich. Quickly, we decided on Einsiedeln. It is a super tiny town just about 1 hour away from Zurich city. There is a huge monastery one can visit, see the Black Madonna inside the church and go for an amazing short hike (or longer, if one has time and feels like it).

Stepping out of the train already made us realise we are definitely out on the countryside. The air was brisk clear – and that is almost surprising as I always believed Zurich already has such clean air. No, Einsiedeln topped it off immediately. The second smell that we immediately welcomed was the smell of horses. Oh, how I love those graceful animals. It reminded me of my childhood, when I used to horseback ride once in a while and loved every minute of it. It now is back up on my to-do list for the future. First, however, I need to get Zaphira used to those “long-legged dogs” which she saw for her first time last Sunday.

After a plentiful lunch that we jumped into right when leaving the train station, we went up the hill and enjoyed nature to it’s fullest. Of course, being “big city girls”, we had to stop about every 5 minutes to either take picture of the surrounding, my puppy, or ourselves (selfie-time for the win!). To not bore you in trying to explain the beauty, I wanted to share some of the photos with you.

I cannot say it often enough – people, go out into nature! There is so much to explore. Sometimes just around the corner – perhaps a few streets aways, but there is always something beautiful if we only just try to see it. It seemed like all the pressure, all my worries, all open tasks – everything just went away for those few hours we were outside. I really recommend it to everyone; for your heart and health!

Guilt-free desserts

There is something so sweet about it. Something that warms up your soul and satisfies every cell of your body. Yes, I am talking about chocolate. Recently, I have become obsessed with the taste of chocolate and the feeling of satisfaction it leaves you with. Of course, next to snacking on the unhealthier version from time to time (normal chocolate, or worse, M&Ms), I try reaching for the rather guilt-free and healthy version whenever possible. On Saturday I had a friend over for dinner (salad) and made him this tasty guilt-free chocolate mousse for dessert. He wouldn’t believe me when I told him it was mainly avocado and bananas he was eating right then and there. I’ve shared the recipe before, so I will link it again here for you. The salad was absolutely amazing as well – I paired it with some avocado, egg, chicken, and mango; which really gave it that last fresh kick it needed. Especially now that summer is coming (slowly but surely I hope!) I love mixing in fresh fruit and especially berries into my meals. It’s just so satisfying and refreshing. Tomorrow I will have another friend over for dinner before we head out for some drinks and then come back in (a sleep-over; yay!). I will most likely make that chocolate mousse again because 1) I love it and 2) she is the biggest chocolate lover I have ever met in my life (typical Swiss hehe). So it will be interesting to see whether she enjoys the healthy version or whether she needs the real chocolate one to satisfy her cravings. I am still unsure what to make for dinner as such – and am thinking of going for a salad again – but do you have any ideas? I’ve become quite boring with my food choices lately. :)

Spring Inspo

There is nothing greater than waking up to the birds singing their songs outside the window – and likewise; sitting on the balcony in the evening and listening to them sing their songs. It’s that in combination with the sun coming out more days a week than it rains that makes me smile more and more every single day. It’s the little things you finally appreciate again when the grey and cold winter is slowly stepping aside. With it, I always get into the mood of buying more flowers – plants in general – and want to bring some color highlights back into my life and interior. I don’t know what it is with winter and having everything mono-tone, but I am really a seasons person. Now that spring is finally, finally slowly approaching us here in Zurich, I cannot wait to re-decorate my home a little bit. I’ve already been buying flowers on a weekly basis the past couple of months (and got some as presents other times) as you may have noticed on my Snapchat or Instagram. It really brings so much life into a room and brightens up the mood just a bit more. Seeping through Pinterest really made me crave spring and decorating everything at home just that much more. Here are some of the pictures that I find inspiring – clean, a bit colourful, and: fresh! I’ve also been looking at some more inspiration for easter and cute little decorations. I already love the egg & flower combination in the first picture so I am thinking of doing something along the lines of that. Perhaps I’ll share some easter inspiration with you guys soon. Also, my cravings for cakes, little cupcakes and brunches just sky-rocketed when I saw some of these cute easter-recipes. I will surely try out some of these and amend as needed for me to allergy-friendly enjoy those too!

My Black Book

Happy 1st of April, peeps! Time passes way to quick again (I know I say this regularly), but honesty, it does. Do you every feel like you have so much to do, so many things you want to accomplish and too little time? I have this feeling regularly, but it’s become worse lately now that I’ve stepped up the game in working out more regularly – or so I try – and often times working longer hours (topped-up with a few hours of studying for uni). One thing that I cannot live without is to-do lists. It’s simply a must for me and feels oh-so-satisfying when I can cross off yet another point. I have my LV agenda with me daily for appointments and bigger projects, have all meetings and every oh-so-little task in my outlook calendar at work (and hence synchronized to all my tech-pieces), and used to have a paper notebook at home where I’d write everything down to later cross out. Yep, I’ll even write down ‘vacuum the apartment’ just to feel satisfied later on when I can cross it off. It gives me a feeling of having actually accomplished something (other than the apartment looking clean).

Now, because I love everything pretty and decorative: having a paper notebook flying around is not the prettiest thing (think of the off-tone blue notebooks that college students use when scribbling down notes). And then I found My Black Book. Seriously, how stylish, clean, low-key and sophisticated does it look? Can you imagine that I am actually getting excited to write down daily tasks? I want to use it for when I am at home, need to scribble down thoughts (for future blogposts for example), having sparking ideas that might turn me into a millionaire one day (I wish), or for writing down those things I always want to do but never get to actually doing because I am too lazy (re-organizing my bookshelves). I bought this one in Manor (store in Zurich), though you can also order it here on amazon.

My plan for the weekend is thus to write down all the little things I want to change in my apartment. From the bookshelves I want re-organized to the paintings I want to change – everything will be written down neatly in my little black book to cross out one by one at a time. With that, I wish you a wonderful continuing Friday and start to the weekend! xo
