Fueling Food

0 Permalink

Oh, the past weeks have been emotional – devastating! It’s when suddenly all seems to pile on top of each other and no matter what you do and how hard you try, some things are just not under your control. I felt helpless and a bit left alone – and by no means was I actually left alone. It’s times like these I am so, so thankful for having my lovely family and best-est friends around me and supporting me no matter what. As the saying goes, its important to value those not only supporting you in times of happiness and fame, but those catching you when you fall, feel deprived and when things are not going as straight as planned.

One thing that I learned, and a lot of thanks goes to my mother here, is to fuel the body especially during those times when the energy is really needed. It goes without saying that food is super important and that we are what we eat – we want to try and do our best everyday. So: stay focused even when you feel your worst! Of course, I am nowhere near perfect nor the healthiest eater. Looking back a few years, I remember stuffing myself with the most unneeded foods ever when in a sad or bad position in life. I have learnt from that and try, as soon as I notice I am not on top of my own game anymore (and that happens to everyone once in a while) to fuel my body with extra vitamins and nutrients. I make sure to eat fruit and vegetables everyday, go rather for a salad or quinoa base with chicken rather than the unhealthy fries. I started working out again at the gym, and in combination with the food I am finally finding my balance again – emotional and as well as in general. That is not to say I’ve found the perfect way to eating healthy my life long, but it sure put me back on track. And let’s not lie, I did steel some fries from my friends plate the other night and do enjoy my one (or two, or three) glass of wine on the weekend – in the end, we only live once.

Now I am sitting in my hotel room in London after having landed only a couple of hours ago. My dinner wasn’t quite as pretty on a plate but very delicious indeed. I got myself a quinoa salad with chicken from around the corner as I didn’t quite feel that I wanted to go outside. Instead I am working on some more emails tonight, trying to catch up on work, and going to bed early. Tomorrow my 2-day conference starts and I can already see myself arriving back in Zurich exhausted Wednesday night – though I am looking forward to these days. Another reason to try an fuel myself a bit better than usual! Other than that my week ahead is not all too spectacular, it’s really about work most of these days. I will try to catch up on my studies again and get into the routine to finally finish off my thesis which is due this summer. Yet, I am definitely looking forward to the weekend – lots of fun activities are planned; including yummy dinners!

Sunday is a Salad Night

Happy Sunday guys! The week has passed enormously fast, once again. Luckily, the weather has been incredible this weekend and, since I my studies only start next week again, I’ve been out and about the whole day. I started my Saturday morning with a relaxed two-hour brunch and some great conversations at Café des Amis here in Zurich. It was the first time I went, thanks to the introduction of a friend, and I must say it surely is lovely. Due to the good weather the place was full however, and we sat inside instead. Though the food was good (and my friends food looked amazing), they were a little inflexible with regards to my allergies. Is it such a big deal to make scrambled eggs fresh without any lactose (milk)? Nevertheless, my two fried eggs and avocado were good!

After a swim-workout at the Hallenbad (swimming pool in Zurich) I met up with a friend in the afternoon, strolled through the city, sat in the sun over some drinks and went for sushi afterwards. He introduced me to Sora Sushi, right at the main train station (Hauptbahnhof), where they have all-you-can-eat specials on the weekend. Trust me when I say I really did eat all I could – rolling out of the place satisfied! The best part here was, that it not only was delicious, but there was no limitation on the amounts of sashimi you could order. If you know me, I really like sushi (Maki especially), though love sashimi! An elderly couple next to us most likely hated us for a short amount of time, though, as we took all the salmon sashimi off the conveyor belt one time: :’) We did give them the next rounds, though!

With all the eating yesterday, today will be rather light. I love making a quick salad in the evenings, which doesn’t leave you feeling like you are rolling-around yet still fills you enough until its time for bed. Speaking off, I will try to eat a little earlier today and will walk off to the kitchen soon. How did you spend your weekend? xo

Sunday

Sundays are for lovers? Sure they are. But they are also for staying in bed as long as possible, only getting up to go to the kitchen or the needed bathroom once in a while. My Sunday has been exactly that: I’ve not left the bed for most of the day today. I am used to getting up every day to sit at the computer one time or another to work on my studies, write a paper and prepare the week ahead. This and next week I finally have vacation though (from uni), before the next module starts. So I’ve decided to stay lazy most of the day, talk to my friends on the phone (which can take hours when catching up) and to look through my photos and get everything a little more organized on the digital side. This is a picture of mini me, discovering my joy for driving at a young age already – I looked so innocent! :’)

Now it’s time to do something though – I cannot lie around the whole day – its been enough, I’ve enjoyed it, but now I need to get active. I’ve decided to sort through some more papers today, then get back into my swimming routine. Tonight will most likely be lazy again, too – and plan ahead for tomorrow (so not super lazy). It’s a public holiday tomorrow but I want to get some personal projects going again and work on that – to be updated soon! What are your plans? xo

Lena Gercke X adidas

Hey loves! I just came home from a super busy day at work, many many meetings, a lovely wine tasting afterwards, and last but not least I went to the girls-only adidas Event where Lena Gercke (German model) stood tall for selfies all evening long. In all honestly, I’ve never been the person to love sports since I was a kid and thus it wasn’t a routine at all before – unlike Lena, whom has always been a fitness-geek since she was young. Nevertheless, I try incorporating sports into my weekly calendar as often as possible. I admit it, I often enough need to kick my own ass when it comes to actually doing something – and of course, I don’t manage it daily, I do have days where I feel down and won’t do anything, I do have days where I overeat and feel even worse. I am normal. Yet, I notice I start missing it on the days I don’t do it at all – it allows me to calm down, get away from the busy daily-life and hey – it’s healthy. So when I got the chance to attend the adidas event tonight I was quite excited to have a look at the newest clothes and what pieces the brand presented tonight. Show-stealer was surely the PureBoost X sneacker, which, Lena actually wore herself. Because let’s be honest, working-out becomes so much more fun with a new set of sneakers or a whole new outfit. The event was hosted at Jelmoli here in Zurich, where you can also buy the shoes online – though, Lena wore the new black & salmon colored version (not online yet). Personally, I had an eye on the new superstar editions – I love the classic black and white sneaker, already own a pair (though really need a fresh, clean one!), have the fully gold ones, the black one, and now have an eye one the black ones with a reptile skin touch to it and the grey ones. What are your thoughts, another black (I know my closet could use more color) one or a new color? Decisions, decisions!

On another note, I love the “new” trend of wearing sports wear all day long. I wrote “new” because, really, it’s not new at all. We see celebrities running around in sports clothes since so long, wearing sneakers daily has become a standard and they even work instead of heels paired with a dress (and leather jacket, whilst we’re at it). However, it seems that although this so-called trend is nothing new, it always takes time to arrive in Europe (unless coming from within, of course). I often feel as if once certain trends have been defined in the US, they are most likely to jump over to London first, and, once it’s been generally accepted to work out (or look good, in this regard), it finally hits all other countries.

Now, time to get ready for bed – I really need a few more hours tonight! xo

Motivational Shopping

0 Permalink

Happy Monday! I just finished my short HIIT workout session at home – I admit, it really takes inner convincing to wake up on a Monday morning and actually work out before even eating breakfast. Ah, my beloved breakfast.. :-) But it is all the more fun when you have some new shoes to work out in. Last Monday my inner self persuaded me into some online shopping activities. I found these Nikes and fell in love – not only with these though, but also with another pair (Air Max) – and, as destiny had it chosen for me, I found a third pair the following day. Whoops. Now my closet is richer by 3 new pairs – I am guily, yet in love! I also got this great pink yoga matt, as well as a new pair of workout shorts. Now that I have all these lovely items I obviously cannot back off from my freshly found morning routine.

I only started the full workout two weeks ago, since I hadn’t done much since surgery. Ahh – it takes so much motivation to continue. Yet, I always feel better and full of energy after my morning session. What do you do for your motivation? I surely can’t shop a new pair of shoes or clothes every week. Ok, I do need a few more shirts – so that might be a reason but I really cannot pull that one through for too long.

This weeks starts off busy again – I just finished my breakfast and need to sprint to the office soon. I have one meeting and quite a few calls scheduled for today. Tuesday and Wednesday will be similar – and the uni stuff in the evening. Thursday I’ll drive down to Düsseldorf, and Saturday we (family) are continuing to Norden (city in Germany), where we will be celebrating my grandpa’s 70th birthday. So excited to see the whole family again! Although I’ll only be staying a few days I’m already planning my outfits and I can see myself arriving with a huge suitcase. However – my parents are used to it by now. I think. :-)

Oh, and yesterday the summer offically started! Woot! Now I am praying that the weather will actually comply and that the rain will stop. It’s been horrible the past days. However, for now, I wish you all a great Monday and start into the new week! xo
