Bunless Burger w/ Tomato Salsa

Happy Saturday guys! I’m back at it – yep, cooking again. The past days I’ve been sleeping mostly due to a fever and general flu that really kept me in bed most hours of the day. In general, I have the feeling I haven’t properly cooked in forever – weeks at the least. I have been in an ugh mood, and quite honestly, I’ve been absolutely anti-eating these few weeks. Not that I didn’t eat, but I’ve gone through a phase where I just didn’t feel like anything. Horrible! So today I finally went grocery shopping which entailed more than a few apples and the boring old salad. I decided on a bunless burger with tomato salsa, some fresh avocado and a tinsy bit of salad. Other than the fact that I love my food looking aesthetic and a bit artsy, my dad (whom is home this weekend for once) gave his biggest approval concerning the tastiness.

Since I’m still not all in health wise, I’ll take it rather slow this weekend – hence, no going out for any parties. Instead, dad and I will go to the movies (I think I haven’t been in at least a year!) to watch ‘London has fallen’ – which has some of my favorite actors playing in it and looks like hellofa good action movie. I’ll let you know how it was!

If you’re interested in this oh-so-yummy, slightly spicy tomato salsa, I’ll share the recipe with you right now. You can of course eat it whilst still warm, though I personally prefer it cooled down – and swear that the taste intensifies and gets better with every hour of cooling.

What you need

4 fresh medium-sized tomatos
1 handful of fresh basil

1 fresh chili
1 medium-sized onion
3 tablespoons olive oil
1-2 tablespoon honey (whichever one you prefer)
1 tablespoon tomato paste 
1 teaspoon spicy paprika powder
pepper & salt

What to do

1) wash the tomatoes and take off the stem – now cut it into bite-size squares
2) peel the onion and chop it up into small pieces
3) wash the chili, and chop it into pieces (you want to make sure to take out the seeds to avoid it being too spicy)
4) in a small cooking pot / or medium-sized pan, heat up the olive oil
5) once heated, add the onion and tomato paste – you want to roast it gently for a couple of minutes
6) now add ¾ of the cut up tomatoes, the chili, the honey and spicy paprika powder – stir it through well, turn down the heat to a minimum and let it slightly cook for 30 minutes
7) whilst cooking, chop up the basil
8) after 30 minutes, stir it through well, take it off the heat, add the rest of the tomatoes, add a handful of basil and let it cool off
9) after another 10 – 15 minutes you can add a bit of salt & pepper to finish off the taste as you like

Now you can

1) serve it directly
2) add more honey if its too spicy – or more paprika powder if its not enough
3) place it in the fridge and let it sit for a couple of hours

If you leave it in a sealed large jar in the fridge, the salsa will stay good for 4-5 days. The portion on the photos shows about half of what you get from the recipe – the rest will be used for tomorrows dinner.

Discovering London

Happy Sunday and happy first advent! The countdown towards Christmas officially begins with the first of advent – and I still need to organize all presents. Speaking off, what are you giving your loved ones this year? I’d appreciate any help because I really am a little frustrated with what to give this year – I might need to look into some online shops later today and get that inspiration going.

Other than that, I am finally back in Zurich since last Wednesday night. London was great, as always, though this time I was actually able to throw in half a Saturday and full of Sunday for meeting friends and discovering London a little more. I usually only go for business recently and as much as I love it, you don’t get to see all too much during the meetings. I can only recommend the hotel I was in, so I will shoot a little post on that one soon. It was situated perfectly for walking around London and so I decided to take a walk on Sunday. I had no plan where I was going and so I just continued for several hours until I noticed I was absolutely lost. The good thing is, that you can jump into a tube almost anywhere, and as large as London seems, the tubes are quite easy to navigate. At least with the right app – thank god for the iPhone and all those apps! I took some pictures along the way, mostly of the architecture. I was lucky with the weather, as the sun was out almost all the time. With some clouds here and there, the photos worked out better than expected. I love the mix between old historic monuments paired with the most modern architecture you can find – and really, it’s all over London.  Now, I am not sure whether it was the chilly temperatures out in London or the past weeks with little sleep, though sadly my London trip ended with me catching a real cold. So I’ve been spending the past days in bed with a tonsil infection – and because I seem to be lucky with so many things recently, they will be taken out early next year. Joy!

Since the weather here in Zurich is anything but dreamy, I quite frankly don’t mind the bedtime right now. It’s been raining on and off yesterday and hasn’t stopped once yet. We did have a little snow yesterday morning, though sadly that all went away again. What have you been doing this weekend? xo







Marble Details

I’m totally in love with my new laptop case! I’ve been thinking about getting one for quite a while now, although I usually prefer my gadgets in its original form and look. So to speak – I always found it nicer without anything on. Now that I’ve been on planes more often in the past weeks and always took my laptop with me, I found it was the right time to protect it accordingly. I don’t think I could handle a scratch on it!

Now it’s time to work a little whilst sipping on my tea. Yup, tea – with it still being about 30°C outside. I’ve been hit by a slight cold yesterday, didn’t feel too well this morning and am praying that it won’t worsen over night again. Crossing fingers!

I hope you all a great start into the new week – there’s so much going on! Thursday I’ll be flying to Germany again for a fun festival in Kaarst (near Düsseldorf, a town where my family currently lives), which is called Kaarst Total. I’ll be working from home Friday and returning Monday evening. Until then I have a lot of stuff to do – which is why I should work on my agenda for the week now; and for the new month whilst I’m at it… (didn’t manage it yesterday).

Early Christmas for myself

Happy Sunday everyone! The week goes past way too fast! Actually, I’ve gotten rather ill this weekend and have been in bed most of the day really. It sucks getting sick right before christmas. For one, the business is still running and work is not becoming less as of yet. Secondly, my mom and my baby Elli (my dog) came today to visit. Wednesday we will all be driving back to Düsseldorf (Germany), where I will stay till after Christmas. Although I will be working partly from Germany, I am excited and looking forward to the family gatherings and Christmas. Actually, Merry early Christmas to me! I bought myself the new iPhone 6 (64GB gold) – so, so happy! Isn’t it just too pretty to bare? I actually didn’t want to buy the new one because I thought its not that important. But being one of those people that takes pictures whereever I go and who can never have enough space and a good camera, I couldn’t just not get it. I guess that’s what you do for the love of having a blog, too. Anyway, I’m really happy with it. I thought I would need to get used to it first but actually it’s quite similar (typing wise).

Saturday I will be taking my sister to Amsterdam for 3 days – isn’t that exciting? I’ve actually never been to Amsterdam (I know, so late!) and so I’m really looking forward to it. I also need to get one or two more presents. Do any of you have special tipps for nice coffee places, restaurants, museums or things in general that I just have to see in Amsterdam?
