Driving up to Saas Fee

0 Permalink

If there is one thing that can always sweep me off my feet – it‘s the breathtaking beauty of nature. Whether it is art, design or fashion; us humans usually try to replicate the beauty we see out in nature. Photography, is one of the greatest tools invented. The fact that I can capture certain moments in life and be able to re-visit them in years from now, is something we need to appreciate. Yet, no photograph in my opinion, no piece of art or painting, captures the actual roughness, the raw beauty of what nature has given us. It is our memories together with the moments we capture that take us back in time.

Yesterday I drove up from Zurich to Saas Fee for to attend a training program by a large law firm I work with. The drive up was already breath-taking; absolutely fascinating. The higher I went (almost 3000m above sea level) the more snow was around me. Not the fluffy snow we know, however, it was parts of the glacier, leftovers from the previous winter. Hard blocks of ice slowly melting in the sun with 16°C temperatures barely being able to move the ice. Together with the greens of the grass, the brown tones of the earth slowly warming up to summer and the blues of the sky – the colors couldn’t have been more harmonizing, more inspiring, more motivating.

Saas Fee is a fairly old town in Switzerland with a great history in regards to cars. Cars are used a lot to getting to Saas Fee, but have been forbidden for generations within the actual town. Shortly after entering the town, we stood introns of a huge parking space to leave the car. Every couple of meters there are cute little oldschool phones to call the hotel one will stay at – or the regular transportation service. Shortly after we called our hotel, a small electro-shuttle came to pick us up. I couldn’t stop myself from smiling – and being impressed. This environmentally friendly approach, which so many praise these days and try to incorpate into our lives, has been with Saas Fee for so long.

We then arrived at our hotel – the Fletschhorn. It is an absolutely cute hotel, with great servicing, amazing breakfast and very spacey rooms. I can only recommend it. The wine cellar is huge, the cook received a Michelin star and the view from the balcony of the room, is simply stunning (second photo below).

Today my day is mostly consisted of a conference and team-building exercises. My personal goal is to exploring the area just a little more before leaving again Friday morning!

Clean Chicken Yogurt & Fruit Salad

Happy Friday! My favorite day. Not because I don’t enjoy work, not because I go out, but because I can sleep in the next day and thus stay up a little longer for once in a while without being fully sleep deprived the next morning. That is, if I manage to sleep in. Tonight I have date-night – and I decided to cook at my place. I love to get all cozy at home and just enjoy home-cooked food once in a while. Same thing tomorrow – I will be having one of my girl friends over to chitchat on the couch, be lazy, drink some vino, and enjoy some home-cooked deliciousness (or so I hope). I have been searching for some new recipes to tingle my taste buds just a little bit more these days.

Looking at theskinnyconfidential.com recipes, I chose one of her recipes (that is part of a meal plan) and slightly changed it – just because I did not have the same exact ingredients on hand. I love her recipes because they are simple, super quick to make, and easily amendable. That is, I suck at following recipes to the point – I always need to put my own note on it and I cannot weight foods for life. I just don’t have the patience.

So here I tried a super healthy, super clean, and surprisingly fresh tasting chicken salad that I combined with fruit and nuts. For informational purposes: I have started buying (as often as possible) all organic products. Also, Coop (favorite little supermarket around the corner of my house) offers a huge range of glutenfree and lactosefree products since a while; which makes cooking just so much more fun.

So for this salad, I used the following ingredients:

– 2 pieces of chicken (around 220g), poached at home and after cut into bite-size pieces
– 1/2 a yogurt (natural taste, lactose free in my case)
– a good handful of cherry tomatoes, cut in quarters
– a good handful of seedless grapes, cut in halves
– 1 medium-sized green apple, cut in bite-size pieces
– a small handful of cut almonds

And believe it or not – that is it. All of the above ingredients were tossed in a large bowl, well stirred and immediately served. Oh, and this keeps you fuller for longer than you though (protein packed, I assume) and lasted me for two meals (kept in the fridge).

I would also think that some fresh orange pieces could taste great in it, perhaps in stead of the grapes – so that is something I will surely try out next time. Also, if you want your salad a with a little more spice or taste, try adding in a spoonful of agave syrup for sweetness, or some chilli flakes for the spicy kick. Lastly, fresh lemon juice is always a good idea.

Let me know your thoughts and if you have tried out this recipe – or anything similar! xo

Gotta-Catch-Them-All

I admit it: I did it. As soon as I finished my last final course project last week Thursday, I downloaded Pokémon GO Friday during lunch. The fever hit me – I gotta catch them all. No but honestly, the game brings back so many fun childhood memories. It’s incredible. I don’t have time to run around all the time and I still do got to work. However, I did notice myself walking the one or other longer way to get to a destination – carried by the hope that I’d see another Pokémon on the go. Want to catch a Pikachu right away? Wait a little while before trying to catch your first (out of 3 optional) ones, throw around a few balls and voila – Pikachu will be at your feet. It might sound super childish – and I admit it is – but I really do love the game. Neverthless, I wouldn’t be surprised if it is a hype. Let’s see how long it stays that way.

During the week I don’t have much time either way – though today during the lunch I walked around a bit before getting food and – yes, I’m loving it – caught a few more Pokémon. The upcoming days will be rather stressful though. I’ve got a few meetings coming up tomorrow, need to fly to London Wednesday (just for the day), got more meetings in Zurich on Thurday (plus celebrating a colleagues birthday), and a few more things to do on Friday. Then, finally, I have a week off. August 1st (Monday) will be off anyway, as we have a national holiday here. Tuesday-Friday next week I took off – I want to calm down a bit (use my way-too-many vacation days) and: paint! I finally ordered new materials and want to work on two large paintings again – one for the bedroom ,one for the living room. I’ve got quite a few ideas, and two concrete ones, though I need to fine-tune them and decide on how it will (more or less) look like in the end. Since I work a bit more abstract, I can’t plan it all too much, anyway.

Now that it’s raining and I don’t have to work on any uni stuff for the next two weeks, my evening will entail starting a new book and maybe some TV. Very relaxing! What are your plans for the week? The weather in Zurich is a catastrophe right now – its seriously pissing outside! xoIMG_6945

I scream for Ice cream

0 Permalink

It is hot (!) outside. We currently have 33°C in the shade in Zurich today and you can’t imagine the heat in the office. Although it feels “cool” when coming into the rooms, it also gets warm after a while. And of course, it is even hotter outside. Today was a long day – I had a meeting that took well over 5hours; though thankfully it went well. Now I just packed my things together, will leave the office and go to the pool for a swim. It’s so relaxing and refreshing – yet it feels like the water is ice-cold compared to the temperatures outside haha. I also had the most delicious banana ice-cream the other day with my bestie (bought in front of Globus) – and I am really craving another one. The heat is the perfect excuse, so I might jump on the bike after and get myself one. Seriously though, if you are ever in Zurich, try this ice-cream. And make sure to try the banana one. I haven’t tried any others to be honest (most are not lactose free), but this one is insanely good. And I am very, very picky when it comes to my sweets. Quite frankly, I am not the biggest ice-cream lover out there – but this one got me totally hooked!
Tonight will be, sadly again, all about studying. Thankfully, it’s my last night before I have two weeks off of uni – means, I will finally be able to enjoy the weather. If it stays well – so cross fingers! xo

Sundays

Happy Monday! The weather this weekend was a-m-a-zing! Of course I was stuck in my little dark hole room most of the time studying – but, it’ll only be until Wednesday and then I have two weeks off. I am beyond excited to finish this Master program (early next year, hopefully)! I couldn’t not go outside at all, though. So I went out to Thalwil to see my bestie at the lake, soaked in some sun, and ate from the BBQ kiosk restaurant. It was simple, yet delish! I am crossing fingers that by the end of the week we will continue to have this weather – so I can finally tan again. With my luck, though, I wouldn’t be surprised if it rains. Cross fingers!

Until then, I have quite a bit to do – at the office, evening drinks and dinners this week, finishing/writing two more papers for uni until Wednesday – and meetings on the go. I might go out for a nice dinner on Thursday, though, to celebrate the start of my two weeks “uni-vacation”. What are your plans for the week? xo

And here is a snapshot (yep, from snapchat) of Saturday’s accessories. I watched “Central Intelligence” at the movies – Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson were SO funny. My pretty choker (necklace) is actually a simple black satin ribbon – used for wrapping presents. I love using it because I can choose what style I want, double-wrapped, with a bow, or singly chic. I’m also wearing Dolce K on my lips from the Kylie collection – I must say these colours stay on forever! Oh, and the glasses, are Gucci. :)
