My Man & I: Attending the Officer Ball

0 Permalink

Happy Tuesday! We had such an amazing weekend and I wanted to share some insights with you. On Saturday the day started off a little hectic – we had to clean up the apartment a bit, Samuel went to the hairdresser, I got extra ready (shaving, peeling, creaming, etc.) and walking the dogs. In the late afternoon we brought both dogs to my parents – whom thankfully were in Zurich and agreed to dog-sit Saturday to Sunday. Then we stopped by the city for a drink – because you know, there’s little better than an apero in the afternoon ;) and then back home again to get ready. Saturday night was the officer ball. Swiss military officers with certain ranks were invited to The Dolder Grand in Zurich for a lovely evening with foods and for dancing.

I wore the black dress I had ordered some time ago from Zalando – such a good catch! Unfortunately I cannot find the dress online anymore, though I’m sure its available somewhere. Let me know if anyone is interested and I’ll make sure to find a link!

I love this picture because I look oh-so-skinny!

We stayed until the end of the officer ball until around 2am. The next day we seriously noticed our age. I am not as fit anymore and I always dread staying up too long! It feels like my body needs days and days to re-generate!

Sunday we picked up the dogs from my parents and took them out to a big field where the dogs could run freely and enjoy themselves with other dogs. It was so fun seeing them have fun and bathe in the river! Afterwards we had a lovely super-late lunch at Fork & Bottle – their pulled beef burger is to die for! But also the truffled fries. Oh, and the ribs. They are so so good, too! I also love the fact that its a huge beer garden, one that is dog friendly, and you can sit outside and enjoy the surrounding nature. I think we stayed a good 3,5-4 hours! It really was lovely.

Discovering London

Happy Sunday and happy first advent! The countdown towards Christmas officially begins with the first of advent – and I still need to organize all presents. Speaking off, what are you giving your loved ones this year? I’d appreciate any help because I really am a little frustrated with what to give this year – I might need to look into some online shops later today and get that inspiration going.

Other than that, I am finally back in Zurich since last Wednesday night. London was great, as always, though this time I was actually able to throw in half a Saturday and full of Sunday for meeting friends and discovering London a little more. I usually only go for business recently and as much as I love it, you don’t get to see all too much during the meetings. I can only recommend the hotel I was in, so I will shoot a little post on that one soon. It was situated perfectly for walking around London and so I decided to take a walk on Sunday. I had no plan where I was going and so I just continued for several hours until I noticed I was absolutely lost. The good thing is, that you can jump into a tube almost anywhere, and as large as London seems, the tubes are quite easy to navigate. At least with the right app – thank god for the iPhone and all those apps! I took some pictures along the way, mostly of the architecture. I was lucky with the weather, as the sun was out almost all the time. With some clouds here and there, the photos worked out better than expected. I love the mix between old historic monuments paired with the most modern architecture you can find – and really, it’s all over London.  Now, I am not sure whether it was the chilly temperatures out in London or the past weeks with little sleep, though sadly my London trip ended with me catching a real cold. So I’ve been spending the past days in bed with a tonsil infection – and because I seem to be lucky with so many things recently, they will be taken out early next year. Joy!

Since the weather here in Zurich is anything but dreamy, I quite frankly don’t mind the bedtime right now. It’s been raining on and off yesterday and hasn’t stopped once yet. We did have a little snow yesterday morning, though sadly that all went away again. What have you been doing this weekend? xo

Cyprus; Paphos

Happy Humpday! Already mid-week and I can’t believe how fast the week has gone by so far. I only arrived Sunday home so I’ve been doing washings from vacation and the visitors we had before all week so far. Well, the days that I’ve actually had time. I’ve had meetings and conferences this week, was at a networking event last night and see friends afterwards (the joy of having no studies!). Tonight I’m actually out again for dinner with my bestie here in Zurich before she leaves to a few days of vacation – though the next days I’ve planned to stay in and actually cook once again. I actually have not cooked since 3 weeks now – horrible!

The biggest challenge this week however, was the weather. It is unbelievably cold – or so it feels. I’ve had to take out my winter jacket already and I’m frustrated just knowing I’ll be freezing when the actual winter and snow comes along. So I’ve been looking through a few photos of Cyprus again last night in bed and decided to share some more with you. Here is a lovely small beach we found, and a wreck we saw from further away we had to take a closer look at. It’s pretty cool to actually know it’s only been there since around 2011 (I think it was) – which means its quite new! There are quite a few wrecks around and near Cyprus, so this isn’t the only one we saw.

The weather there was amazing – I am still dwelling in bikini-thoughts and looking forward to my next journey into a warmer country. Let’s see when and where that will be! Now I’ve got to get ready soon for dinner – sushi; so good. Wishing you a great continuing week! xo

Paphos – Cyprus

2 Permalink

Happy Sunday! I can finally relax – finally forget about work, uni and all the other stress that has kept me up at night the past weeks. Today we (mom, dad & sis) finally arrived in Cyprus – Paphos (city) – at the Elysium hotel. It’s breathtaking, let me tell you that. We arrived in the afternoon and immediately got served with lovely welcome drinks at the hotel’s terrace. After slowly unpacking and changing into summer clothes, we went out to the beach to discover some of the surrounding area. I must say that the beach really isn’t the highlight so far – it’s a public beach more or less and not the prettiest I’ve seen. Yet, we haven’t seen it all and there might be more on the other side (only walked one direction today). The hotel itself, and the large pools however, are amazing. It’s got everything you need, from a pool bar – even in the water – to whirlpools, amazing restaurants, a great gym, spa area, beauty salon and lots more. Tomorrow morning I’ll test out the gym first thing, then have a great breakfast (love my breakfasts!), and then start my tanning session. This week is all about relaxing, sleeping lots, getting back my energy that has been lacking lately, detoxing myself from the rather ‘polluted’ city air and obviously getting that tan on. Those of you that know me, know that I always give 100 percent in regards to anything I touch. I don’t like my projects left unfinished and I don’t accept a satisfactory outcome either. The same goes with vacation now. In the past years I’ve learned to totally let go. As much as I love those city tours, love my activities such as diving or cruising around to discover the area – I’ve also learned to completely let go. To listen to good music, to lie at the pool or beach for hours, to simply switch off my mind. Quite frankly, I think it’s life changing and super important to also be able to let go off things fully – let your thoughts wander and see where it takes you – seriously, just day-dream. And treat yourself! I’ll surely check out the spa area these days, I’ve promised myself at least one massage and most importantly – indulging on good food.

Tonight the dinner theme was traditional Cyprus food – and let me tell you, the seafood-salad was to die for. I had to get a second serving, no chance of passing it. We have breakfast and dinner included the whole week so we basically don’t have to leave the hotel if we wanted to. Lunch is normally not needed in these hot areas (or so we think), however there are lots of bars and restaurants at the hotel to get snacks in between if needed. The great thing is that they have a different dinner theme everyday. Tomorrow they will have an Asian theme – so I am looking forward to that! We might also skip a dinner or more in the next days and go down to the harbor for fresh seafood right from the ocean – and surely for a small lunch snack here and there.

I’ll make sure to take some more pictures in the upcoming days and update you accordingly – though you can always get fast and live updates via my snapchat: LauraNanette. Till then, I wish you a great Monday tomorrow morning and hope you enjoyed your weekend! xo

Goodbye 2014; Welcome 2015

Happy New Year everyone! It’s amazing how fast time passes – 2014 is officially over and 2015 has started. I love the saying ‘you’ve got an empty book of 365 pages ahead of you (well, 364 now) and it’s in your hands to write the story.’ If you think about it, it really is us – we are the ones writing our own books, creating paths we want to follow and living the life we want to. At least, that is what I try on a daily basis.

If I look back to the beginning of 2014, 12 months ago, it seems that the year has ended too fast. On the other hand, so much has happened and I have enjoyed almost all of it. Yes, there have been little ups and downs but really, it’s been a great year. I have moved from Hamburg to Zurich, went from an internship position to a full-time job, started StylePhantom, met some amazing people, people that I will surely keep in my heart forever, have travelled and seen different places. 2014 has been a good year for me and I am keen on making 2015 an even more prosperous, an even more exciting, and more fulfilling year than 2014 has been.

I have so many little plans for this upcoming year, so many larger, great ones too. I want to travel, I have picked out places already, I have personal projects, I have plans for changing my apartment a little and I am so excited to making all these things happen – to sharing them.

Then, of course, there is so much I do not know. I don’t know what exactly will happen in 2015, I don’t know who I’ll be meeting next, what other projects I’ll be starting and what projects I’ll be finishing. I have no clue for so many things and the great thing is, I am so happy to be in the unknown sometimes. I love waking up and planning ahead of time and then having to throw over all my plans for something else. I love discovering each day by the day, each hour by the hour!

I am absolutely looking forward to this year and I surely will be writing my own little book – excited to fill in the next 364 days. And, obviously – wishing you the most prosperous year with the most breath-taking moments. xo
