Good morning! It’s been so long – but I’m still alive! Last week has been so busy, you know when you suddenly get swamped with work? Yep, that was me last week, swimming in little circles. But it was crazy good, I’d rather be busy full-on than bored with nothing to do. Except for the end of the week – I managed to sprain my tailbone after I fell quite hideously down some stairs. Haha, it had to happen to me one day!

Friday I went out for an amazing dinner – I was out with a friend who had shown me a steak-restaurant in Zurich. I’m such a meat-lover it’s crazy! So for anyone that loves steaks I can only recommend the Churrasco in Zurich. I had an Entrecôte and I still can’t get over the amazing taste.

Saturday I spent my day window-shopping, going to Ikea and some other shops. I’ve been looking for lamps now for ages – I still have lightbulbs hanging all over my apartment but it’s hopeless to find a hanging lamp I like that is somewhat affordable. I just don’t see why I should spend so much money on a nice lamp. I’ve been thinking about making one myself? I love copper lamps, or playing with copper shades or even something with wood. Anyone got any good ideas or a DIY website for hanging lamps? Let’s see what I’ll be doing next with that haha.
However – I did find some great new glasses for drinking. They fit perfectly with my red wine glasses I got earlier this year. I’ll have to show them to you later this week! I also got small other stuff to cook with – my kitchen seems full already but I always find something great that could help me make pretty food haha.

Yesterday I haven’t been lazy for once – although I did have a lazy sunday evening. My dad stayed over this weekend so we decided to go to Säntis – a mountain about 1 hour drive from Zurich. It was breathtaking. Really, there are no words to describe the beauty of nature sometimes. I still haven’t gotten over the beautiful view. Isn’t it somehow possible to take it with you? I would do anything to wake up to such a view in the morning! One of my future dreams is to have a small little house or apartment in the alps to go there in the winter times and just enjoy the view on a daily basis from time to time. Or I’ll have to rent one out – crossing fingers!

The tiny tinsy house up on on that mountain is where the weather-man used to live the whole year round. It’s insane, as much as I love the view and as much as I would wish to have that view, I would never be able to live up there. Imagine! Back then they had no lift to go up and down within 15 minutes, they actually had to hike up all those 2500+ meters. There is no supermarket around the corner and no neighbor to talk to. Alone the thought is crazy!

I actually took even more photos, also from down where the parking was. The trees were beautiful, full of heavy snow, almost leaning under the heavy weight. I only went a few meters off the pathway and was already stuck in the snow up to my knees. But I do admit, getting back home to a nice hot cup of tea did make me quite happy too. No matter how much I love the snow and the beautiful landscape, I couldn’t live without summer!

Now that I’ve written quite a bit, I quickly need to hurry and leave the apartment to start on time at the office. This week is already quite full in regards to meetings and evening-plans so I’m really looking forward to it. I wish you all a great Monday! xo

This little house used to be, were the man living up here would write down and record the weather conditions. Today this is done with huge computers and it is the largest weather-station in all of Switzerland!

Drinking with Style

Call me a drinker, an addict, an alcoholic – or, call me human. Of course I don’t drink every day and I know that alcohol surely is not the healthiest drink out there. To be fully honest though, I think a great glass of wine can round up and accentuate a meal like nothing else. I love having my glass of white wine next to my truffle-pasta, my glass of red wine to go along with the roast beef or a glass of rosé on a chill evening at the lake with my friends. What I do not do, is drink by myself. As much as I enjoy drinking a glass at a nice evening with good food, I never drink at home when I’m by myself.

Now that I’ve spoken so unnecessarily much about drinking, I’ll get to the point of this post: drinking with style. Style is a huge factor in my life. Whether it comes down to my clothing, my food, which I always try to nicely arrange, or my apartment, I love living in style. Surely, I do have things from IKEA and my apartment is definitely not a designer-piece in itself, but I do try to buy everything for it to harmonize. My style is surely not everyone’s style – therefore called personal style – though I would say it’s not too bad. I love Swedish interior design, mixing antique with modern pieces and vice versa.

My newest buy: wine glasses (getting back to the drinking topic). Prior to my new glasses, I had white wine glasses from IKEA. Not bad looking at all – they were absolutely fine and did their job. After a short time though, I was left with two from six glasses – they break way too easily. So it was clearly time to buy new white wine glasses. Yes I keep saying white wine glasses and differentiating it from red wine glasses, as white wine glasses are usually narrower and smaller in size. I had been looking for new glasses weeks now, though did not want the regular supermarket ones.

Now that I have my first apartment, I try to invest into my buys. Slowly but surely my style has evolved to a point, and been there for quite a few years, where I feel safe investing into it.

One brand I love is Villeroy & Boch. They have amazing cutlery, plates, glasses, … – you name it!  I’ve been love-eyeing with these glasses for a while, though really did not want to spend so much money on one single glass. Remember, you need at least six to eight glasses, if you really want ones to keep a bit longer. Also, I think its important to have a certain number of the same glasses, in case guests come.

I fell in love with these glasses and fell in love in a second round, when I saw they were on sale. I only paid a third of the price per glass – now is that not a great deal? I immediately had to buy them, eight of them. Now I cannot wait for my mother to come visit me here in Zurich – she is bringing some bottles of wine to store (remember, I always want to be able to serve good wine with dinner for guests) – meaning we can use the glasses first time round this weekend. I feel almost silly getting so excited about this – is it normal to be so happy to have invested into wine glasses? I surely hope I’m not the only one out there. What have you in invested in last? Do you invest money into these kind of things?

I wish you all a wonderful remaining day and a great start into the week!

Ray-Ban: They never get old

0 Permalink

There are so many brands out there that sell sunglasses, reading glasses and fashionable (no-sense) glasses. One brand that truely never gets old, are Ray-Ban. I have a few pairs already, though cannot get enough of them. My first Ray-Ban sunglasses I bought are actually glasses with corrections, as well. I barely use them anymore (maybe I should more often), though I still do love them. After having bought my second Ray-Ban’s, the green-mirrored aviators, I have almost forgotten about my first pair. Now after I have moved to Zurich, packed and unpacked boxes, I found them again & fell in love, once again.

I love being able to switch between the retro-style and the aviator, which have a modern touch due to the mirroring. Although I love the green lenses, I am now looking for a more down-to-earth pair. One, I can wear with a more casual business style and one that doesn’t look too much like summer. I think sunglasses are great accessories, not just in summer. Sunglasses look great in winter too, and speaking of winter: I have never understood that weird face people make, when talking about sunglasses in winter. Does the sun stop shining, just because the season has changed? I highly doubt it. Especially in the winter, when out in the mountains or when you have snow on the streets, the light reflects even more. Sunny winter days are surely my favorite days in the cold season.

The next Ray-Ban’s on my wishlist: the gold-framed aviators with black lenses. I love the contrast that black and gold create. In general, gold is surely my favored metal from all. After having to wear corrected glasses again (while using the PC, reading or driving – the general activities, which require concentration), I decided to go with statement glasses. I have become a huge fan of the nerd-glasses, previous to getting my own. Once I was told, that I would need to wear glasses again, the decision to get nerd-glasses was taken immediately. I tried on several glasses from several brands, but ultimately the Ray-Ban’s were the ones that really made me feel most comfortable. One thing is clear: If I do need to wear glasses, at least have them be an accessory to complete the whole outfit.

As much as I am now praying towards the brand, there are, of course, so many other great brands out there. Once I have saved up a bit more and will be able to spend more on shopping from time to time, I will surely find myself to other brands. Which brand is your favorite? I’d love to get some more inspiration, as I do know there are so many other great ones out there. For now, I wish you all a great rest of the day. I cannot wait for tomorrow, as it’s been raining most of the day today and finally it will brighten up tomorrow again. Time to get my sunnies out – once again!
