There is nothing greater than waking up to the birds singing their songs outside the window – and likewise; sitting on the balcony in the evening and listening to them sing their songs. It’s that in combination with the sun coming out more days a week than it rains that makes me smile more and more every single day. It’s the little things you finally appreciate again when the grey and cold winter is slowly stepping aside. With it, I always get into the mood of buying more flowers – plants in general – and want to bring some color highlights back into my life and interior. I don’t know what it is with winter and having everything mono-tone, but I am really a seasons person. Now that spring is finally, finally slowly approaching us here in Zurich, I cannot wait to re-decorate my home a little bit. I’ve already been buying flowers on a weekly basis the past couple of months (and got some as presents other times) as you may have noticed on my Snapchat or Instagram. It really brings so much life into a room and brightens up the mood just a bit more. Seeping through Pinterest really made me crave spring and decorating everything at home just that much more. Here are some of the pictures that I find inspiring – clean, a bit colourful, and: fresh! I’ve also been looking at some more inspiration for easter and cute little decorations. I already love the egg & flower combination in the first picture so I am thinking of doing something along the lines of that. Perhaps I’ll share some easter inspiration with you guys soon. Also, my cravings for cakes, little cupcakes and brunches just sky-rocketed when I saw some of these cute easter-recipes. I will surely try out some of these and amend as needed for me to allergy-friendly enjoy those too!

Another day of meetings has passed, the electricity shut down on us today for almost an hour in the city of Zurich, the internet was dead for hours afterwards at the office, I handed in my assignment and it’s almost time to go to bed – finally! I remembered that I wanted to share a few more photos from NYC when I went back in March – and still have not done so. In looking through the photos I really miss it – it was such an amazing trip (yes, business mostly – but I had the chance to get a little of that ‘NYC lifestyle feeling’ on the weekend). Will I go again? For sure! Yet, I have not planned anything and am slightly doubting I’ll find the time this year. It’s only the end of April, I know, but I have been booking fights for every month up until November this year. It’s usually small trips, several short weekend trips, some business trips, and I will be booking a combined business-vacation trip for October soon, too. I am so excited it’s beyond words – and of course, I have to use this chance to tease you a little! Once it’s all booked and final (hopefully by the end of next month), I’ll make sure to update you though.
Now I quickly need to pack my stuff for the upcoming days: Düsseldorf and Norden (city up in the north of Germany). I’ll be flying tomorrow after work, meet the family, enjoying a girls-day with my mom and sister on Friday, and then we (including dad) will drive up to Norden on Saturday morning to meet the rest of the gang (aka the family). My grandma is turning 70, so almost the whole family is getting together, joined by some of her friends and neighbors and we will be going out for dinner and ‘partying’ afterwards. I haven’t seen them (all bundled up together) in quite a while, so I am surely looking forward to seeing them! Especially my little cousin, whom turned yesterday 3 (already!!). She is the most adorable kid and so incredibly mature for her age (she acts like she’s 6, at least!). With that, I should jump of social media, pack my stuff and jump straight into bed. xo
ps. make sure to add me on snapchat if you want to see more of my daily life (ranging from exquisite to double-chin-like selfies, daily impressions and of course little take-outs of my activities – and travels coming up)! @stylephantom
Have you ever stared at a wall and found it looks naked? I have. In fact, I am looking at my walls right now and have the feeling I’m in desperate need to dress up my walls – brighten up the apartment, give it a sense of style, and bring in a positive vibe. One of my walls in my apartment is colored – well, it’s got a brown-greyish earth tone to it, not necessarily colored as in a bright neon color splashing into the room. I like my apartment cleaned-up (let’s ignore the mess on my home desk and bed for a moment) and as you might remember, I have ever so often complained about my “creative” (*cough* study- *cough*) room looking dreadfully boring and everything but creative. I don’t want fill it with colorful dust-keepers either. Instead, I want it clean, nothing flying around (as it’s current state is all about) and straight forward on a color palette. And, I want frames. Yep, I want those black, simple, skinny frames that we see all over when googling for interior-inspiration. I want them neatly hung up, filled with black and white (duh!) photos, inspirational quotes (still need to decide) and I want it pretty.
So I’ve collected a few inspirational photos (not my own!) I want to share with you and noticed a couple of “rules” that really should be followed if you want it somewhat “stylish” looking and not like a 3-year-olds playroom.
Rule #1 – choose a color
Of course, you can have every frame in a different color, some filled with colorful photos of yourself when you were 2 years old sucking on your very first lollipop, with a photo of your cat next to it, a framed letter you received from your BFF when you first started writing, next to some cut-outs from magazines and a quote about how much you love pancakes. It is fully up to you. Nevertheless, if you’re looking for a theme that looks rather like an adult-y and less like a kindergarten get-away, I suggest going for one, maybe two colors. What color frames do you want? All black? Silver? Gold? Maybe the top three in white, mid-row in gold and bottom 3 in black? It’s all up to you, but it will look much better if one can hint a theme rather fast.
I love black frames as shown in the top, first photo.
Rule #2 – do your measurements rights
Trust me, it will look so much better when the spaces in between each frame are consistent. If you are anything like me – and I tend to go OCD sometimes, a 5 cm space on the left and 10 cm space on the right will annoy the crap out of you in the long-term. Also – use a water venture. If you don’t own one, no problem: the iPhone and its million apps have got you covered (and I’m sure the same goes for androids). You really don’t want to end up with crooked-looking frames all over the wall.
Rule #3 – choose a wall
This might seem obvious, or not at all. Before you start hammering holes into the wall and hanging up your beloved photos: think. Think thoroughly, look at the wall, look at the whole room. Will the hoped-for composition match the rest of your interior? Is the wall large enough or even too big (you don’t want your photos looking lost, either!)? Where is the window, how does the light shine in, will it influence the mood of the story you want to tell with the frames and photos? These are all little things that might not bother one or the other, but surely something to consider if you don’t want to find yourself in a situation of hating the wall you have chosen because the opposite wall would have looked much better in the end.
Rule #4 – the size of your frames
Obvious to some, not so much to others. It is important however, to think about the sizes of the frames. Do you want them all to be in the same size, do you want different sizes and play around with the format? Speaking of sizes (don’t believe those that say sizes aren’t important ;) ..!) don’t forget about the next rule.
Rule #5 – what do you want to frame?
Jumping back to sizes for a moment: think about the size of the photos, pictures, drawings or quotes that you want to place into your frames. Frames are frames (smart, huh?) and are meant to be filled with creativity – and replaced. If you know yourself and the exact art you want to look at for the next months or years – awesome, go you! I for instance, have changing moods. Knowing myself I will love one quote for a couple of weeks, believe it is the motto of my life and wake up one day and want to throw it out the window. If you want replace the art in your frames frequently (and cost efficiently – think printing out art yourself or taking magazine pages), you should aim for normal-sized frames. A4 or A3 and A2 sized frames can be easily filled. Anything too large might become a hassle.
What to do you think – are there any rules I didn’t catch?
I surely have a goal for the upcoming weeks (in the little free times I have sometimes) – ordering frames (most likely black, obviously), deciding on the art, printing quotes or getting photos printed in a good quality) and deciding on a wall (most likely the one I am staring at now).
With that, I wish you all a cozy evening and an amazing wall to look at. xo
Hey loves! Already Sunday and another week has gone by. The best part? I can sleep in once more tomorrow! Yep, it’s like a public holiday in Zurich tomorrow called ‘Sächsilüüte’ in Swiss German. Remember when I told you about the blogger event when Isabella Löwengrip came to Zurich to talk about her blog and products on the recent post? Well I couldn’t restrain myself from buying some of her products and trying these out the past couple of weeks. I’ve been wanting to tell you earlier but I figured it is best to wait a while and actually be able to write a product review after having tested the products a bit.
My favorite product so far, without a doubt, is the ‘Count On Me‘ deodorant. This is probably one of the products least talked about, and I do understand it: no one wants to talk about being sweaty and actually needing deodorant. For a matter of fact, though, I would assume almost everyone uses it. I’m actually more of a ‘sweaty’ person – sounds nasty, I know what you’re thinking. It’s a subject matter no one really talks about, yet over and over again I hear it from so many people. Finding the right deodorant is essential. I’ve tried them all in the hope to actually finding a deodorant that really works. Those that claim they work for 48h – really? Has anyone not been sweaty for a full 48h? I haven’t. Let alone that most people do shower in between those hours. Either way, Isabella had been talking about the same problem and the fact that she never really found a product she really liked. Not only did she, where one might assume she markets the products, talk about it, but one of the owners of the hairdresser (a man!) even said it’s the best one he’s used so far. That made it so much more believable for me and thus I had to try it. To cut a long story short, it actually works. I’ve been super happy with the product – not only does it smell amazing, but I actually don’t sweat (or at least a whole lot less)!
Another set of products I really like is the ‘Blond Perfection’ silver shampoo and conditioner. I love being a blonde – I love the warm color of blondes in general, yet, I don’t like it yellow. Some people do, and that is absolutely fine, though I always look to have that slight icy, silver shining blond instead. The silver shampoo does exactly that – I’ve only used it a couple of times, 1-2x a week at max, but it gives you a healthy glow and takes out any yellows. Watching out for my blonde hair has become especially important since I go swimming a couple of times a week now. All the chlorine in the pool is not only drying out the hair (and skin), but if you don’t wash it out properly you can easily get a yellow (almost green) look to your hair. Yuck!
I also tried the set ‘Back To Balance’ (shampoo and conditioner) as I am very picky with my hair products. I can use any conditioner I want, really, and it makes no difference. Give me the wrong shampoo though, and my scalp gets itchy within hours or a day. I had to get used to this shampoo as well – scalps seem to take time to adjust – but after a week I’ve had no more problems.
Last but not least I can only recommend the ‘Hydration Heaven’ hair oil. I can’t compare it much with any other products because honestly I’ve never really been into hair oils – wishing though I had started earlier! My hair in general is quite healthy (according to my hairdresser), is nice and thick (even though I color it) and grows at quite the good pace. Nevertheless, there are days when my hair seems a little dull, the shine is gone and I don’t really want to wash my hair immediately again – let alone it’s not the healthiest thing to wash your hair daily. Over and over again I’ve read that you should only wash your hair 1-2 a week. How? I don’t know. I don’t wash it daily (anymore), but I do wash it every other day. Let alone on the pool days, I want to wash my hair out well. On those days I do not, however, and I need that extra boost of shine the oil has really helped a lot. With only 1-2 sprays the hair looks glossy and healthy and – thankfully – not oily.
So that’s it for my beauty product review today – what do you think, have any of you tried them out yet? I actually just found out that the deodorant has been nominated for the Swedish Beauty & Cosmetics Award in 2015 – not bad (!), though I guess nominated does not mean win. Either way, I will snuggle up on the couch a little more now, drink my tea and might even continue on my studies today. Oh joy! With that, I wish you all a lovely end to the weekend! xo
Hey loves! I just came home from a super busy day at work, many many meetings, a lovely wine tasting afterwards, and last but not least I went to the girls-only adidas Event where Lena Gercke (German model) stood tall for selfies all evening long. In all honestly, I’ve never been the person to love sports since I was a kid and thus it wasn’t a routine at all before – unlike Lena, whom has always been a fitness-geek since she was young. Nevertheless, I try incorporating sports into my weekly calendar as often as possible. I admit it, I often enough need to kick my own ass when it comes to actually doing something – and of course, I don’t manage it daily, I do have days where I feel down and won’t do anything, I do have days where I overeat and feel even worse. I am normal. Yet, I notice I start missing it on the days I don’t do it at all – it allows me to calm down, get away from the busy daily-life and hey – it’s healthy. So when I got the chance to attend the adidas event tonight I was quite excited to have a look at the newest clothes and what pieces the brand presented tonight. Show-stealer was surely the PureBoost X sneacker, which, Lena actually wore herself. Because let’s be honest, working-out becomes so much more fun with a new set of sneakers or a whole new outfit. The event was hosted at Jelmoli here in Zurich, where you can also buy the shoes online – though, Lena wore the new black & salmon colored version (not online yet). Personally, I had an eye on the new superstar editions – I love the classic black and white sneaker, already own a pair (though really need a fresh, clean one!), have the fully gold ones, the black one, and now have an eye one the black ones with a reptile skin touch to it and the grey ones. What are your thoughts, another black (I know my closet could use more color) one or a new color? Decisions, decisions!
On another note, I love the “new” trend of wearing sports wear all day long. I wrote “new” because, really, it’s not new at all. We see celebrities running around in sports clothes since so long, wearing sneakers daily has become a standard and they even work instead of heels paired with a dress (and leather jacket, whilst we’re at it). However, it seems that although this so-called trend is nothing new, it always takes time to arrive in Europe (unless coming from within, of course). I often feel as if once certain trends have been defined in the US, they are most likely to jump over to London first, and, once it’s been generally accepted to work out (or look good, in this regard), it finally hits all other countries.
Now, time to get ready for bed – I really need a few more hours tonight! xo
